A mystical journey of “ragas and rhythms” presented through an intersection of time, languages, and musical genres – all in one afternoon! The 5000 year old tradition of Hindustani (North Indian) classical music – time-tested, resilient and ever-vibrant – is manifested in the enchanting vocals of internationally recognized Samia Mahbub Ahmad, the instrumental mastership of Soumya Chakraverty on the sarod, and Debu Nayak on the tablas. Samia, whose presentation mesmerized the Intersections audience last year, returns with a show that infuses vocals with the soulful sound of the sarod, a string instrument which may have originated in Afghanistan and migrated to India over the centuries. Samia and Soumya will combine classical presentations with modern epics from different countries, crossing different languages from South Asia, continuously supported, undeniably like a heartbeat, by Debu’s glorious rhythmic tabla renditions.
